My little gardening business.
I really, really do need to ‘hear’ more as I listen….and even, I guess, ‘confirm.’
Arriving at house number 83, my latest and newest customer, gardening tools unloaded, straight to the usual gardening tasks for a customer, cultivating and weeding borders, dead heading fading Spring flowering bulbs, clipping back some overgrown shrubs. Brushing paths. No mowing needed, me thinking the customer must mow and edge their own lawn which happens a lot!
More or less finished when the person next door appeared and said, “ahh I didn’t know my neighbour also wanted ‘their’ garden maintaining? That’s so convenient for you hun, getting two gardens next door to each other with no travelling!”
I was so confused. The voice tones from this person sounded just like the one on the phone to me, with some specific words used which they had just done face to face!
“My neighbour will be so pleased when they get home from work later on. Their garden looks lovely, hun! Are you over to mine next?”
‘Clunk!’ the penny dropped!
I’m so sure the new customer had said house number 83!
So I just sheepishly replied that the garden I was doing ‘before coming to theirs was just a one-off.’
Anyways, stayed and completed the wrong garden before starting the one I should have done!
Now, not even showing any embarrassment, I quietly, without the ‘right’ customer being aware, wrote a note for the wrong customer explaining what had I had done and if they did need a gardener, well, this is the gardening standard I work to, hoping that number 83 will also come on board!
The customer at number 85, made me a cup of tea as I maintained the ‘corrrct’ garden!
So, no need for a cup-of-T…..just need a lie down 😂
